The Eagles have agreed terms with Jalen Hurts on a five-year, $255million contract extension to make him the highest paid player in NFL history.
He will have a guaranteed $180m in the deal and around $15m a season in incentives, according to NFL Network. His new deal also apparently includes a no-trade clause, which would be the first in Eagles history.
Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl last season but they were beaten by the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Eagles confirmed the landmark news in a tweet on Monday morning, saying: ‘Keeping the main thing in Philly. We’ve agreed to terms with Jalen Hurts on a 5-year extension through the 2028 season.’
The $255m deal eclipses the overall value paid by the Cleveland Browns for Deshaun Watson last year at $230m, although that contract is fully guaranteed.
