Breakdancing has become an official Olympic sport for the 2024 games in Paris.
The International Olympic Committee officially added the dance-offs Monday in an attempt to attract younger audiences to the athletic competition. The street-dancing competition will be called breaking at the Olympics, as it was originally in the 1970s. It will debut with 16 athletes in each of the men’s and women’s medal events. Breakdancing was first proposed two years ago after successful trials at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, the outlets reported. Other sports confirmed for the 2024 lineup include skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.
