‘Tool’ Dethrones ‘Taylor Swift’ on Billboard Charts

Tool’s Fear Inoculum has defeated Taylor Swift’s Lover on this week’s Billboard 200 charts, Billboard announced Sunday, amid a clash of the fan bases of the respective artists.

Swift on August 23 put out Lover, a week before Tool put out their latest release Fear Inoculum – their first studio album since 2006’s 10,000 Days – on August 30.

Fear Inoculum sold more than 270,000 equivalent album units for the week that wrapped up Friday, Nielsen Music reported, which marks the highest sales in the rock genre in a year’s time, since Dave Matthews Band’s Come Tomorrow topped the chart in June of 2018. The race to number one caused some friction between the fan bases of the respective artists, as Swift’s fans sought to rally behind the pop superstar, while fans of Tool, which first formed in 1990, marveled at the unlikely showdown.
