Mr. Mercedes inspired by the book trilogy by Stephen King, has been renewed for a third season at AT&T’s Audience Network, Variety has confirmed.
Executive producer Jack Bender is returning to direct with David E. Kelley coming back to oversee the writer’s room. Production on Season 3 is scheduled to begin in Charleston, South Carolina in early 2019. The 10-episode season will premiere later next year.
Mr. Mercedes has resonated with such a wide audience, so we’re thrilled to bring it back for a third season for our customers,
Daniel York, senior executive vice president and chief content officer for AT&T, told the outlet. David E. Kelley, Jack Bender, and Sonar have crafted a series that honors the original work by Stephen King and we can’t wait to see where they take the show in a ‘post-Mr. Mercedes world.’
Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, the first season followed a retired detective, Bill Hodges, haunted by the case of a killer, Brady Hartsfield, who murdered 16 people in a stolen Mercedes and who remains undiscovered two years later, only for the killer to reemerge and begin taunting the detective, leading the two to engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
