Creator of ‘Downton Abbey’ has a New Series

Doctor Thorne

Downton Abbey may have ended in the UK but ITV, its original home, has been quick off the mark to secure the services of its creator, Julian Fellowes, for this adaptation of his favourite writer, the Victorian Anthony Trollope. Tom Hollander, Rebecca Front and Ian McShane lead the cast, with Hollander playing Dr Thomas Thorne, who lives in the village of Greshamsbury in Barsetshire, with his young niece, Mary (Stefanie Martini), a girl blessed with every gift except money. “Doctor Thorne is a wonderful example of Trollope’s gift for understanding the tangles we humans get into,” says Fellowes. “He is sharply observant, critical and merciful in equal measure and, above all, highly entertaining.” Sounds perfect
