There was no shaking Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s earthquake epic, San Andreas. The Warner Bros. disaster movie hauled in an estimated $53.2 million over the weekend, beating projections of a $40 million take.
The blockbuster pretty much sucked the dollars away from the weekend’s other opener, Aloha, starring Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams and Alec Baldwin, which came in a disappointing sixth with just $10 million. San Andreas also rocked the foreign box office, grossing an impressive $60 million from 60 countries for a global bow of $113.2 million, already earning back its reported $110 million budget. Dwayne stars as a helicopter pilot who makes nick-of-time rescues as everything from San Francisco to Los Angeles falls from the effects of a massive earthquake along the San Andreas fault, created in stunning CGI.
