Police Officer Finds Rare Lavender Pearl in Seafood Stew

A Massachusetts police officer found a rare lavender pearl in his seafood stew six years ago, but it wasn’t until this week that he found out it was worth $15,000. Mike Serino, from Swampscott, found the egg-shaped pearl in his stew during a birthday dinner at Peabody restaurant, and thinking it was a pretty rock, he took it home and put it in a jewelry box.  But after hearing a news story about a similar find earlier this year, he looked into getting his jelly-bean-sized pearl authenticated.
