Eleri Adkins, 29, said she made the gruesome discovery while eating fish and chips with her family in Swansea, South Wales, UK. After noticing something odd about the vinegar bottle, Ms Adkins looked closer and saw the jelly-like ‘alien’ inside – then realised to her horror that both her and her children had already eaten some. ‘I cannot believe it – there is something growing in my bottle of vinegar,’ she recalled saying at the time. ‘It is not small, it looks like it’s got a head.’ Ms Adkins, who is pregnant, said she immediately went to the branch of Tesco where she had purchased the bottle a month before and the reaction of the employees was the same as hers.
But although Ms Adkins was compensated with a full refund and flowers by the local Tesco branch, she said the reaction from headquarters was less than satisfactory. ‘I was asked ‘what do you want us to do about it?” she said. ‘I’m disgusted at how I was spoken to.’ After a length back-and-forth, Tesco asked for Ms Adkins to return the bottle in order to conduct an investigation.
