A heartbroken schoolboy has remembered his beloved dead pet rat — by turning him into a flying memorial helicopter. Pepeijn Bruins was devastated when his “cuddly” rodent had to be put down after being stricken with cancer.
The 13-year-old from the Netherlands first decided to have the rat stuffed. Then — after recalling seeing the world’s first stuffed, radio-controlled flying cat while studying for a school project — he took his tribute to the next level. He handed Ratjetoe, which is Dutch for “Ratatouille,” over to Dutch inventors Arjen Beltman and Bart Jansen. The duo, who created the cat-copter and also once made a dead ostrich take flight, then transformed him into the world’s very first ratcopter.
