Although the river Thames has reportedly been host to a variety of strange creatures, including marine-dwelling whales and dolphins, it will see it’s very first hippo float about this week. Going by the name HippoThames, the creature is actually not a real pachyderm, but rather a 21-metre-long, wooden sculpture, created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman to form part of the Totally Thames festival. According to Time, the work was commissioned by the Thames Festival Trust and can be seen floating along the iconic London river up until 28 September. Hofman has been in the spotlight for his series of massive rubber ducks, which have appeared in various harbours around the globe – from Saint-Nazaire in France in 2007 to Los Angeles in August 2014.
